Don't bother installing Siebel 8 on Vista
The Siebel 8 installer for the Enteprise Server, when run on Windows Vista, fails immediately, notifying you that the installer must be run "on a Windows machine". So Oracle/Siebel doesn't recognize Vista as a Windows machine. Somebody should tell Microsoft. The sticklers would say that Vista is not a supported platoform for Siebel Enterprise Servers. But neither is Windows XP and many a development system is installed there.
I wonder how many of these Vista machines Microsoft is selling? It is not only Siebel/Oracle/big enterprise software, not much independent software works on Vista. Give it another 1.5 years before upgrading I say.
