Oppenheimer Centennial

It was the 100th anniversary of J Robert Oppenheimer's birth yesterday. Berkeley organized a conference, which also included a lecture and some exhibits. We went to the lecture last night. The speaker was a professor at Yale, a well-versed historian of science and technology. The topic was 'Scientist, Weapons and the State'. It was quite interesting. I think Charlie liked it too. There were authors, historians and scientists who are the experts in matters of JRO. I don't know how Charlie really felt, but it must have been a little strange, sitting in the audience in the back of the room, listening to people talk about the importance of your grandfather in world history. He went back for the conference today, which focuses more on Oppenheimer's life as a scientific intellectual. We'll see what he has to say about that.
